'28 Years Later III' underway with the return of Cillian Murphy

Sony Pictures has given official green light for the third installment of the franchise 28 Years Latercon Cillian Murphy in negotiations to resume are leading role as Jimfrom the original delivery 28 Days Later (2002).

This new trilogy expands and continues the dystopian universe that we originally saw in 28 Days Later y 28 Weeks Later of the director Danny Boyle.

The script for the closing of the trilogy 28 Years Later III will be written by Alex Garlandscreenwriter of 28 Days Later, 28 Years Laterand the soon to be released, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Extermination: The Temple of Bones), according to reports from Deadline.

In previous statements, Boyle assured that he would be in charge of directing the third film if it received the green light from Sony. The second installment, The Bone Templeis directed by Nia DaCostawith a premiere scheduled for January 2026.

The filming of 28 Years Later y 28 Years Later: The Bone Templewere made consecutively, a reason that makes it possible for the cinema releases of these first two installments of the trilogy to be with a wait of just seven months between both feature films.

Three weeks after Boyle wrapped production on 28 Years Later, DaCosta (Hedda, Candyman, The Marvels) filming began The Bone Temple.

The news of Sony giving the green light to the third installment comes a day after the first projections of The Bone Temple by DaCosta, received a great reception from critics.

Murphy will have a small role in The temple of bones and its inclusion in the third part 28 Years Later It will be a source of excitement for the audience.

The plot of 28 Years Later (2024) of Boyle, our takes place almost three decades after the events of the original 2002 installment. In The Bone Temple, the virus will continue to spreadshowing “more bloody violence and the rise of a cult figure in an England plagued by the infected,” where it seems the biggest threat to humanity might be… humanity itself.

The Bone Temple picks up the story shortly after the events of 28 Years Laterwhich culminated with the meeting of Spike (Alfie Williams) con Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and his gang of blonde Jimmies in velvet suits, with O'Connell as the story's main villain. His path will collide with Dr. Kelson of Ralph Fiennes. It opens in theaters on January 15, 2016.
