The Danish horror hit Speak No Evilwhich we remember for its great premiere at Sundance in 2022, has the theatrical release of an English-speaking remake of Blumhouse y Universal Pictures.
The studios continue to prepare the audience for the release of this new version, releasing a second official trailer that you can find at the end of this note.
The English-language remake, titled do not talk to strangers In our market, it is the responsibility of the screenwriter and director. James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black).
The main cast is headed by James McAvoy (Split, It: Chapter Two), Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale, The Fall), Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven, Blade Runner 2049), y Scoot McNairy (Argo, Narcos: Mexico).
Alix West Lefler (My Life with the Walter Boys, Riverdale), Kris Hitchen (Trigger Point, The Long Shadow), y Kind of Malhees (200 Meters) complete the cast.
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic estate of a British family they befriended over the holidays, what begins as a dream vacation soon turns into a psychological nightmare.”
The 2022 original film centers on two families, one Danish and one Dutch, who during a vacation in Tuscany, meet and become fast friends. Months later, the free-spirited Dutch family extends an invitation to the conservative Danish family for a holiday weekend getaway at their rural home. Things gradually spiral out of control, as the joy of reunion is replaced by misunderstandings.
Speak No Evil received the R rating by the MPA (Motion Picture Association) due to:
“Some strong violence, language, some sexual content and brief drug use.”
Jason Blum is producing the remake, with Paul Ritchie, Christian Tafdrup, Jacob Jarek and Brea Sequeira serving as executive producers. Tafdrup co-wrote the original film.
Director Watkins made his debut behind the lens with the thriller Eden Lake (2008), a tense tale starring Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender as a couple who go on a romantic getaway to a remote lake surrounded by woods, where they encounter a nasty gang of teenagers with terrifying and violent consequences. A highly recommended film. The director later made the feature films The Woman in Black (2012), the action thriller Bastille Day (2016), an episode of the acclaimed anthology series Black Mirror and eight episodes of McMafia.
Universal Pictures will release Speak No Evil in theaters the September 13, 2024.
