“When Wade is yanked from his universe by the Time Variance Authority, the watchdogs of the multiverse introduced in Loki, he embarks on a mission through multiple alternate dimensions that brings him together with a version of Jackman’s Wolverine from a parallel reality.”
This is the first installment of the saga to be released by the Walt Disney Company, following Disney's massive acquisition of Fox in 2019. This does not alter the R rating franchise feature.
The sequel also features the returns of Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Karan Soni (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), and the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, a character she played in Daredevil (2003) and for the last time in the 2005 solo spinoff, and Patrick Stewart (X-Men). New additions include Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Emma Corrin (The Crown).
The first installment followed the antihero seeking revenge against Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man who turned him into a mutant and left him disfigured. The second film focused on Deadpool assembling the X-Force team to battle the time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin). Both films broke records upon their respective releases in 2016 and 2018, with openings of $132.4 million and $186 million, respectively — historic for an R-rated film.
Levy, Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner serve as producers, with Louis D'Esposito, George Dewey, Wendy Jacobson, Simon Kinberg, Jonathon Komack Martin, Josh McLagen, Mary McLagen, Reese and Wernick serving as executive producers.
