James Cameron continues working on the post-production of Avatar 3which during D23, Disney confirmed has an official title Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Following the release of said film, scheduled to hit theaters in December 2025, the franchise Avatar will prepare the launches of Avatar 4 (December 2029) and Avatar 5 (December 2031).

Rumors recently surfaced that Cameron would not be directing the fourth and fifth installments, however, the filmmaker took advantage of an interview with THR to correct the rumor and clear up misunderstandings.

When asked if he will personally be taking over directing the films, Cameron said:

“Sure. Absolutely. I mean, they’re going to have to stop me. I have a lot of energy, I love doing what I do. Why wouldn’t I? And by the way, they’re written. I just reread both of them a month ago. They’re fantastic stories. They need to be done. Look, if I get hit by a bus and I’m in an iron lung, someone else is going to do it.”

By the way, Cameron shot some parts of Avatar: Fire and Ash y Avatar 4simultaneously with the second installment, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), this in order to ensure the continuity of the age and physical appearance of its characters, who will have a time jump of six years for the fourth film.

Cameron previously explained:

“We made the capture [de movimiento] in 3 and live action photography in 3 as a production interspersed with [The Way of Water]and we even did part of the 4th movie because all of our young characters are going to have a big time jump in the fourth movie.”

“We see them and then we go away for six years and come back.”

Cameron's original film was released in theaters in 2009, becoming a global phenomenon that led it to become the highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office. A title that it still holds 14 years later. The sequel, Avatar: The Way of Waterhit theaters in December 2022 and is currently the third highest-grossing film of all time globally.

The path of water Set more than a decade after the events of the original film, the film tells the story of Jake, Neytiri, and their family as they endure danger, deadly battles, and tragedy.
