The news that many of us were waiting for finally makes progress. Warner Bros. Television, the studio that produces the original series of Apple TV+has begun working on the next step to give the green light to the development of the fourth season of Ted Lasso.

The first thing WBTV has done is secure the return of three of the original cast members. These are: Hannah Waddinghamwho plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldsteinwho plays Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swiftwho plays AFC COO Leslie Higgins (via Deadline).

These three actors are under contract with the UK's Equity union, and have a different type of contract than the actors who are members of SAG-AFTRA in the United States, whose contracts have already expired. The next step will be to negotiate with the cast members who belong to SAG.

Such is the case of the co-creators and executive producers, Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), as well as Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). On the other hand, Phil Dunster would not be reprising his role as Jamie Tart, apparently due to work schedule conflicts, since he is currently working on the series The Devil’s Hour from Prime Video, and Surface from Apple.

Securing the return of the main cast is one of the key pieces for a fourth season, in addition to awaiting budget approval. The source also reveals that preparations are being made to open a writers' room.

If all the pieces of the puzzle fit together as planned, filming for the fourth season is believed to begin in early 2025.

And although the report does not explicitly state it, these advances would be a clear indication that the approval, cooperation and support of Sudeikis is being counted on, who was always said to be the one who depended on whether or not there was a next season.

Sudeikis is not only the co-creator of Ted Lassobut its main screenwriter, executive producer and star.

Ted Lasso is based on a character Sudeikis played in a series of NBC Sports Premier League promos. Sudeikis developed the series with Joe Kelly and Bill LawrenceGoldstein, who plays Roy Kent, is another of the series' writers and a co-producer.

The series follows Ted Lasso, a college football coach in the United States, who moves to England to coach a Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond, a sport he has no knowledge of. The club struggles to avoid relegation to the second division. The first season debuted on Apple TV+ in August 2020, where it immediately became a favorite among viewers.

Recognition from the industry was not long in coming. Ted Lasso It has been nominated 13 times for an Emmy Award, and has won two consecutive awards for Best Comedy Series, and Best Actor for Sudeikis (2), Goldstein (2), and Waddingham.

In the May 2023 season 3 finale, Keeley and Rebecca could team up for a new adventure, the AFC Richmond women's team, with all the main characters getting a happy ending, including Ted, last seen coaching his son on a football field in Kansas.

Sudeikis always conceived of telling the story of Ted Lasso in three seasons. The door was not closed with the broadcast of the third season, as continuing depended on finding the right idea.
