'Scream 7' signed the return of Mason Gooding

The next installment of the slasher franchise, Scream 7, has just signed the first return of the members of the “Core Four”, the nickname by which the members of Scream 5 y Scream 6 who survived the Ghostfaces attacks in said films.

It is about Mason Goodingwho has already closed an agreement to complete his return as Chad Meeks-Martin in the seventh installment, reported Variety. Jasmin Savoy Brownwho plays Mindy, Chad's twin sister, is not on board the project at the moment.

Gooding se suma a Neve Campbell in his long-awaited return as Sidney Prescott, after having been absent from the previous installment, Scream VIdue to a salary dispute, Isabel May (1883) as one of Sidney Prescott's daughters, Celeste O’Connor (Freaky), Asa Germann (The Boys), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as another of Sidney's daughters, and Courteney Cox reprising his role as Gale Weathers.

Gooding's signing comes after much uncertainty. The plans of the also known as Scream VIItook a 180° turn when Melissa Barrera was fired after speaking out against the genocide in Gaza and calling for a ceasefire. A couple of days later, Jenna Ortega left the project due to scheduling conflicts over the recording of the second season of Wednesday. Without the return of the two leads, things got even worse when director Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day) announced his departure in December 2023, citing the toll this took on his mental health.

Kevin Williamsonthe creator and producer of the franchise since the original, will direct Scream 7marking his directorial debut for a film in the franchise Scream.

Williamson wrote the script for the original installment, and the sequels Scream 2 y Scream 4, and has been executive producer of Scream 5 y Scream 6.

The script of Scream 7 was written by Guy Busickfrom a story of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. They both wrote the script for Scream 5 y Scream 6.

With details of the plot to be known, it is known that the seventh film will return to the roots of Scream and will focus on Sidney Prescott (Campbell). The actress told Entertainment Tonight last July that “Let's follow Sidney. I was introduced to the concept and it’s the reason I joined.”

Recently, Patrick Dempsey revealed that he had had approaches to finalize his return as Detective Mark Kincaid, who in Scream 3 was in charge of the investigation of the murders associated with Stab 3the movie within the movie. In Scream (2022) y Scream VI (2023) it was confirmed off-camera that Sidney married Mark and they have two daughters and a young son.

Vanderbilt produce Scream 7 alongside William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and executive producers Radio Silence (consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella).

The most recent sequel, Scream 6was released in theaters in March 2023, grossing more than $168 million worldwide, breaking the record for the best domestic box office (US) for the slasher saga with $108.1 million. The six installments of the saga Screamhave a combined global box office of more than $908 million.

It is expected that Filming will begin in early 2025.

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film produced by Spyglass Media, with a release date set in theaters around the world for February 27, 2026.
