The fantasy musical Wickedfrom the director John M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), which is enjoying great success in cinemas around the world, has just announced What will be the official title of the second part of the film adaptation.
The sequel, previously known as Wicked: Part Two (o Wicked: Part 2) has been named Wicked: For Goodofficially.
The change is a direct reference to a musical theme that will be performed as a duet by Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), in which they both sing about their relationship as enemies that has affected their lives forever.
Grande, Erivo and Chu posted a video on Instagram about the title change.
Universal Pictures will release it in theaters November 21, 2025.
Wicked: Part I tells the story of how a green-skinned young woman is framed by the Wizard of Oz and becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film already surpassed $500 million at the global box office last weekend; It is the highest-grossing adaptation of a Broadway musical in the United States. The film also became the best national and global premiere for an adaptation of a Broadway musical.
The fantasy musical directed by Chu, has a script by Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life) y Dana Fox (Cruella, New Girl).
Both films are adapted from the 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) by Gregory Maguire, which tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West and her former friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch. The musical adaptation of Wicked by Stephen Schwartz debuted on Broadway in 2003, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.
The cast is made up Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Peter Dinklagey Marissa Bode.
Both Grande and Erivo were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances in Wicked: Part One.
