The most recent news was shared by Andy Muschietti, who in an interview with Radio TU of Argentina, revealed that three seasons of Welcome to Derrywhich will be told in three different periods:

It was previously announced that IT: Welcome to Derry Its history will begin in 1962in the time prior to the events of IT: Chapter One (2017). The series will include the origin story of Pennywise the Clownas well as the dawn of the 27 year curse that stalks the small town of Maine. The inspiration is the interludes written by Mike Hanlon in King's novel.

The potential second and third seasons – which will get the official green light depending on the success of the first – will go back in time and be set in different eras.

This is what Muschietti told Radio TU:

It is a story that is based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon's research. They are fragments of his research. For 27 years, he's the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it and all that.

“So They talk about catastrophic events of the past, such as the Black Spot fire… the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the 1930s… and the Kitchener Ironworks explosion. Every time [Pennywise] comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle.

“We are basing all three seasons of this series on each of these catastrophic events.”

Muschietti next:

“There is a reason why history is told backwards. So, the first season is 1962, the second season is 1935, and the third season is 1908..”

The filmmaker also comments that Warner Bros. is happy with the result of the first season and that they are “very interested in making a second season as soon as possible.”

Fuchs co-produced IT: Chapter Two; Andy directed both the 2017 and 2019 adaptations, while Barbara produced them. The Muschietti brothers, together with Fuchs, developed the story of the series, with Fuchs as the screenwriter. Andy Muschietti directs four of the nine episodes of the first season.

Welcome to Derry It will premiere on HBO and Max this year 2025 on an exact date to be announced.
