The webtoon 'Stagtown' will be adapted to film in live action format

The popular webtoon Stagtown is preparing a live-action film adaptation, produced by Margot Robbie's LuckyChap and Wattpad Webtoon Studios.

Benjamin Brewer will be the writer and director, reported Variety. Brewer worked as a VFX artist on the Oscar-winning, Everything Everywhere All at Once. He also directed thriller Arcadian (2024), which premiered at the 2024 SXSW Festival, he co-directed and co-wrote the crime thriller The Trust (2016), both starring Nicolas Cage, and he co-wrote Reptile (2023) starring Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone.

For some context, Wikipedia explains that “webtoon is a digital comic format created in South Korea. The main difference with the webcomic is its presentation: each episode of a webtoon is published in a single vertical image, making it easier to read on electronic devices.”

The webtoon Stagtowncreated by Punko, has over 18 million views online. Its spooky plot and art follows Frankie, Jeremy and Felix as they discover that something is terribly wrong in the town of Stagtown and try to escape the horrors that the residents spend every day ignoring..

Producers include Aron Levitz, David Madden and Jason Goldberg of Wattpad Webtoon Studios, and Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr of LuckyChap.

Producer Goldberg, global film director at Wattpad Webtoon Studios, said in a press release:
