The actor James Ransone He died last Friday, December 19, at the age of 46, in Los Angeles, California.

Ransone died by suicide, according to information from the Los Angeles County medical examiner. The cause of death was “hanging”, while the place of death was “shed”.

Ransone was married and the father of two children. His wife, Jamie McPhee posted a fundraising campaign for the National Alliance on Mental Illness on social media.

Originally from Maryland, Ransone was known for playing Ziggy Sobotka on the acclaimed HBO series, The Wireand for his role as Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror film IT: Chapter Two.

His other film credits include Prom Night (2008), Tangerine (2015), Mr. Right (2015), and franchises Sinister (2012 and 2015), and Black Phone (2021, 2025), both produced by Blumhouse; He also has credits in other series such as Generation Killy Boshwhile his last appearance was season 2 of Poker Faceissued last June.

In 2021, Ransone came forward as a survivor of sexual abuse. The actor testified that his former guardian, Timothy Rualo, sexually abused him numerous times in the home where he grew up in Phoenix, Maryland, for six months in 1992.

Ransone made the accusation public by publishing a long post (no longer available) on Instagram that she sent to her alleged sexual abuser, in which she said:

“We did very little calculation. The most vivid memory I have of the abuse was washing the blood and feces off my sheets after you left. I remember doing this when I was 12 because I was embarrassed to tell anyone.”

The alleged abuse caused Ransone a lifetime of shame, confessing that Rualo's actions led him to become an alcoholic and heroin addict. After achieving sobriety in 2006, Ransone said he was ready to face his past. She subsequently reported the allegations to Baltimore County police in March 2020. In September of this year, a detective told Ransone that prosecutors had no interest in investigating the matter further, according to her email. The Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office ultimately did not file charges following the police investigation, the Baltimore Sun reported.

In 2016, Ransone revealed in an Interview magazine article that he achieved sobriety at age 27 “after five years of using heroin”:

“I woke up at 27 after five years on heroin. It was like I sobered up and realized, 'My job is to be an actor. This is crazy!' People think I got sober working in Generation Kill. It wasn't like that. I got sober six or seven months earlier. I remember going to Africa and I was going to be there for almost a year. I was number two on the squad list and I thought: 'I think someone made a mistake. “It's too much responsibility for me.”

Ransone is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and two children.
