WGA Awards 2026: Writers Guild reveals film and TV nominees

He Writers Guild (WGA; Writers Guild of America) revealed this morning all its nominees for best original and adapted screenplay in film projects, and best screenplay in the television sector in all eligible formats (series, miniseries, etc.) for the WGA Awards 2026.

The contenders for best original screenplay in the film category are Black Bag, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Marty Supreme Sinnersy Weapons.

The adapted script category is made up of Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, One Battle After Anothery Train Dreams. All of the nominees in this category echo the adapted screenplay nominees for the 2026 Oscar, announced last week.

By the way, in original script, those that were not nominated for the Oscar that were nominated at the WGA, are Black Bag, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You y Weapons.

Las differences between the Oscars and the Writers Guild Awards (WGA) in the Original category They are due to the union's eligibility rules, which are especially strict for foreign films, often excluding them. This left the Oscar nominees for best original screenplay out of contention today: Sentimental Value, It Was Just An Accident, y Blue Moon (it was not produced under a WGA collective agreement), in addition to the favorite of all of Brazil, The Secret Agent.

Last year, Anoraby Sean Baker, won the Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award for Best Original Screenplay, a feat he would replicate at the Oscars. Nickel Boys (RaMell Ross, Joslyn Barnes) took the Adapted Screenplay award at the WGAs; Conclavewhich was not eligible for the WGA, would win the Oscar category.

In the television sector, To many leads this morning's nominations with 4 nominations, for Drama Series Writing, New Series, and a couple of nominations for episode writing.

The category of best drama series script also includes Andor, The Pitt, The White Lotusy Severance.

The script for best comedy series will be debated between Hacks -last year's winner-, Abbott Elementary, The Chair Company, The Rehearsal y The Studio.

Final series and voting for the WGA Awards begins Friday, January 30 and runs through February 13.

This year's WGA Awards winners will be revealed on Sunday, March 8, 2026 in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles at the JW Marriott Los Angeles LA Live and in New York at the Edison Ballroom. Here we will have all the winners as soon as they are announced.
