The actor was in charge of revealing the first two official images of the project, on his Instagram account, writing the following in the publication:

“Happy first look at Highlander! It's been quite a journey for me, which I'll tell you all about when the time comes, but it's a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy it.”

You can find the glimpses at the end of the note.

The cast of the reboot also includes Russell Crowe (Nuremberg), Karen Gillan (The Life of Chuck), Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Day One), Dave Bautista (Dune: Part Two), Marisa (Industry, Black Bag), Max Zhang (Yip Man 3), Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy), y Jeremy Irons (The Morning Show).

The script was written by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4, Hitman: Agent 47), with previous drafts by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.

Filming for Stahelksi is now underway.

The story of Highlander follows Connor MacLeod, a 16th century Scottish Highlander who is immortal unless beheaded. Others like him exist throughout the world and often face each other in battles over time.

The franchise has spawned five live-action films, the first released in 1986 with Christopher Lambert in the lead role alongside Sean Connery, an animated film, and a spin-off television series.

Attempts to revive the franchise take us back to 2008, although it was not until late 2016 when Stahelski joined the project as its director, with Cavill joining as the lead in 2021, and filming finally taking place this year.

In a previous interview with The Direct, Stahelski revealed the following details about the story:

We're taking it from the early 16th century in the Highlands to beyond modern-day New York and Hong Kong, and we'll see how it goes. There is a great opportunity for action. There is a chance to play a character that not many people can play. And it's a bit of a love story, but not how you imagine. In 'John Wick,' I learned a lot about how to bend the narrative a little bit… another kind of myth.”

Producers are Joshua Davis, Neal H. Moritz, Nick Nesbit, Louise Rosner, Chad Stahelski, and Scott Stuber. Executive producers are Rui Costa Reis, Eliad Josephson, Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger, and Gregory Widen.

The film is produced under the Amazon MGM Studios/United Artists banner.

A theatrical release is expected in 2027 or 2028.
