The legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has already recruited more talent for the cast of his next film project, What Happens at Night.
According to Deadline reports, Mads Mikkelsen closed an agreement to join the previously announced protagonists, Leonardo DiCaprio y Jennifer Lawrencea dreamlike story centered on an American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects) is also part of the cast.
Mikkelsen will play Brother Emmanuel.
Apple Studios is financing the project, and producing it together with Studiocanal. The latter acquired the rights to the Peter Cameron novel on which the film is based.
Scorsese directs the script written by Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal), which adapts the novel by Peter Cameron.
THE STORY IN MORE DETAIL
What Happens at Night is a dreamlike story that follows an American couple on a trip to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They stay in a cavernous, virtually deserted hotel, where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters, including a flamboyant singer, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic healer. Nothing is as it seems in this strange and icy world. As the couple fights to get their baby back, they seem to know less and less about themselves and the life they have built together.

It is a new collaboration between the filmmaker and DiCaprio. It will be his first film since Killers of the Flower Moonanother Apple Original Films production.
It is the first association between Scorsese and Lawrence, and a new one between Lawrence and DiCaprio, after being part of Don’t Look Up (2021) by Adam McKay.
The project is currently in pre-production; Filming is expected to begin soon.
Mikkelsen has been part of acclaimed projects such as Another Round (2020), winner of the Oscar for Best International Film, The Hunt, Casino Royale, Doctor Strange, Riders of Justice, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Promised Land, Mufasa: The Lion Kingand the series Hannibal.
