Two Oscar winners are teaming up on an exciting new small screen project.

Amy Madiganrecent winner of the Academy Award for best supporting actress for Weaponsit's just add to the cast of the reboot of the series The X-Filesin charge of Ryan Coogleralso winner of his first Oscar this year, for best original screenplay for the acclaimed horror thriller Sinners.

Coogler will write and executive produce the reboot The X-Filesin addition to directing the pilot, and having credit as co-creator with Chris Cartercreator of the original series.

Other actors recently confirmed for the cast are Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday, Boardwalk Empire), Devery Jacobs (Forbidden Fruits, Reservation Dogs), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Wind River), Lochlyn Munro (White Chicks, Scary Movie), Joel D. Montgrad (True Detective), y Sofia Grace Clifton (All the Wrong Reasons), according to Deadline.

No details were given about the roles of the star guests.

The group joins the previously announced protagonists, Danielle Deadwyler (Rooster, The Woman in the Yard) y Himesh Patel (The Odyssey), as two FBI agents, originally played by Gillian Anderson y David Duchovnyto whom, by the way, the door has been opened to repeat their roles if they wish.

The series synopsis details:

“The series follows two decorated but very different FBI agents. [que] “They forge an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-closed division dedicated to cases of unexplained phenomena.”

Jennifer Yale is the showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers are Sev Ohanian, Deadwyler, Patel, Zinzi Coogler, and Simone Harris.

The X-Filesoriginally produced by 20th Century Fox Television, aired on Fox for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001. In 2016 and 2018 the network gave it a two-season revival.

Coogler is developing the reboot through his overall deal with Walt Disney Television.

In April 2025, prior to the theatrical release of Sinnersin an interview with Last Podcast on the Left, Coogler said about the reboot:

“I've been excited about this for a long time and I can't wait to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our job right, will be really scary.”

Coogler has established himself as one of the most refreshing and original voices in the film industry, from independent film projects such as Fruitvale Stationeven the franchise Creedand highest profile projects such as Black Panther and its sequel. His most recent film project, the acclaimed Sinnersgarnered applause and recognition from critics and moviegoers alike, culminating in an Oscar win for best original screenplay.
