The anticipated restart of Resident Evilfrom the director Zach Cregger (Weapons y Barbarian), and Sony Pictures, is all about surviving horror.
The new version stars Austin Abrams (Weapons) as a medical courier named Bryan, who navigates a zombie-infested Raccoon City with intense action and terror.
As previously stated, Cregger's vision for this film will be different from what was portrayed in the seven live-action films (the six starring Milla Jovovich, and the 2021 reboot), and the short-lived Netflix series.
Regarding this, the filmmaker delves into a behind-the-scenes video recently shared by the studio:
“Resident Evil is a flagship for survival horror. It is not action.”
“What I love most about survival horror video games, and Resident Evilis this overwhelming feeling of fearwhere it's like I have to go down this long, dark passage, I have two shotgun shells, I know there's a lot of shit waiting for me there, and it's really bad, but I have to go.
“So, I had this idea for a story, in the world of Resident Evilbut it's kind of like me, if you put me in a game of Resident Evil“I'm terrible with weapons, I wouldn't know how they work, I would miss 99% of my shots.”
“I love games, I've played them too many times. This is a chance for me to be loyal to video games in spirit and tone, and build a story that puts you in that setting, over and over again, with ever-increasing stakes..”

Since Sony announced the reboot with Cregger on board as co-writer and director, the filmmaker has been firm in his decision not to directly adapt the video game stories, stating that His film “is a completely original story that takes place in the world of Resident Evil”.
In addition to Abrams, the cast includes Paul Walter Hauser (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Zach Cherry (Severance), Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country), y Johnno Wilson (I Love That for You).
Cherry plays a scientist in a hospital, while Reis is an ex-military character.
