Bradley Cooper to play Duke in new 'GI Joe' movie

The new movie G.I. Joe —based on the Hasbro toy line—which is in development at Paramount Picturesfound its protagonist.

He will be the Oscar nominee, Bradley Cooperresponsible for assuming the leading role as Duke, the commander of the military unit and leader of the troops, in the film that will be directed by Danny McBrideaccording to Deadline reports. This will be the first feature film directed by McBride who previously directed several episodes of the series Vice Principals y The Righteous Gemstones.

After receiving and evaluating various proposals for the new film G.I. JoeParamount opted for McBride, who is also writing the script with Jeff Fradley y John Carcieri.

The source explains that after securing the project, McBride had a list of desired actors for the lead role, with Cooper as his first choice. After reading the script and meeting with McBride, the actor committed to the project.

G.I. Joe will mark a new collaboration between McBride and Cooper, since Cooper participated as a guest star in the aforementioned HBO series, The Righteous Gemstonesdirected by McBride.

Cooper is currently directing the prequel to Ocean’s Elevenin which he co-stars alongside Margot Robbie. Cooper also wrote the script. Production takes place in Europe.

The movie of G.I. Joestill without an official confirmed title, is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment.

Plot details are being kept confidential, but it will be a reinvention of the franchise. Likewise, the project will be separated from a previous crossover film with Transformers which is no longer in development.

The development of Paramount's franchises is a key pillar of the programming strategy established earlier this year by co-presidents Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg. Executives' plan going forward is to develop and revitalize the studio's existing franchises and intellectual properties (IP).

Titles include Days of Thunder 2starring the return of Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway; World War Zwith the return of Brad Pitt; a new delivery of Paranormal Activity produced by James Wan and Jason Blum; a new project Star Trek in charge of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a live-action and a sequel Mutant Mayhem scheduled for 2027; Sonic the Hedgehog 4; a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick; and the next installment of A Quiet Place.
