Ingredients

  • 3 cups wheat flour

  • 1 cup cold butter cut into small cubes

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 cup ice water

Directions

  • In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt.
  • Add the chilled butter in small cubes to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  • Add the ice water to the mixture and stir with a spoon or your hands until the dough forms into a ball.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using.
  • When you are ready to use the dough, roll it out on a floured surface until it is about 0.5 cm thick.
  • Use the dough to line a casserole dish and place the desired filling.
  • Cover the filling with another layer of dough and press the edges to seal.
  • Poke holes in the top of the dough with a fork or knife.
  • Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden.
  • Remove from the oven and serve hot or cold.
