Follow the instructions, using the ingredients below to make your Rice with Lentils well seasoned and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of lentils

  • 2 cups of rice

  • 4 cups of water or vegetable broth

  • 1 large chopped onion

  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional seasonings: cumin, coriander powder, paprika, etc.

Directions

  • Wash the lentils well under running water and drain.
  • Place the lentils in a pan and cover with cold water. Leave to soak for about 30 minutes.
  • In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Add the chopped garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes, until the garlic releases its aroma.
  • Drain the lentils that were soaking and add to the pan with the onion and garlic.
  • Add the rice to the pan and mix well.
  • Pour water or vegetable broth into the pan. Season with salt, pepper and other desired seasonings.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pan.
  • Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the lentils are tender. Check occasionally and add more water if necessary.
  • After cooking, let the rice rest for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve hot, accompanied by salads, vegetables or your favorite protein.
