A breakup and a dog involved in the trailer for the rom-com 'Merv' with Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox

There is nothing more complicated than a breakup. Except when you share a dog.

We already have the first trailer of Merva comforting Christmas rom-com by Prime Videostarring Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer, New Girl) y Charlie Cox (Daredevil).

The trailer begins with Anna (Deschanel) telling her dog Merv, who she still shares with her ex-boyfriend Russ (Cox), that the couple has broken up. “You're going to be okay,” Anna tells her pup. We immediately see Merv experience a change in his mood. “He doesn't want to play ball, he doesn't want to be cuddled,” says Russ (Cox). “He needs to regain the will to live.”

Even the vet tells the exes that the breakup could be affecting Merv's routine and causing him depression. Anna and Russ decide to take matters into their own hands.

The film then follows the story of Anna (Deschanel) and Russ (Cox), a recently separated couple trying to cope with situation of most complicated coparenting in the world. After her beloved dog, Merv, loses his joy after the breakupAnna and Russ see each other forced to resume contact.

Hoping to cheer Merv up, Russ takes him to Florida for a well-deserved vacation, but Anna unexpectedly joins the trip. As Merv begins to recover, It looks like healing the dog's broken heart could spark some chemistry between Anna and Russ..

SYNOPSIS:

A recently separated couple takes their dog on a vacation trip to cheer him up, but they end up reconnecting romantically.

In addition to Deschanel and Cox, the cast includes Chris Redd (Disjointed), Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond), Ellyn Jameson (Barry), Victoria Blade y Jasmine Matthews.

Jessica Swale (Summerland) directs the film, with a script by Dane Clark (Suze) y Linsey Stewart (Suze).

Producers are Matthew Baer and Roma Downey, Kerry Hundley and Kaka Raka, with Colleen Marshall and Jeanette Volturno serving as executive producers.

Merv premieres in Prime Video on December 10, 2025.
