I go to the nursery – anyone who has followed my blog over the last 2 or 3 years will have noticed that the Japanese singer Ado has become one of my new favorites. And this despite the fact that she is anonymous and you cannot recognize her live. She is a superstar in Japan and currently the most successful singer – although musically she is anything but predictable and presents really hard material in two songs that she wrote herself. Like the new single “Vivarium,” which was released a few weeks ago and in whose video she shows at least part of her face for the first time (so far all of her music clips have been animated), which was of course a sensation in itself. Since the song is very personal and was released for the publication of her biography, Ado thought it would be appropriate to reveal a little more about herself than before.
The song is great and definitely one of my hits of the year. Musically it's wild, it's more MathRock than J-Pop, and Ado's voice is (as always) outstanding and extraordinary. It's so inconceivable that a Western pop star would record this kind of music and “expose” it to fans; after all, in this country, you can't deviate a millimeter from the most well-worn path if you want to reach as many people as possible. Fortunately, things are different in Japan (at least sometimes). 🙂
Tori Amos «Stronger together» – for much longer than Ado, namely since the early 1990s, I have liked the American singer Tori Amos, whose always intense, emotional piano playing and singing really impressed me back then. Admittedly, I haven't followed her as much in recent years, but her new song really appeals to me again.
