The project is described as “an original independent feature film.” The plot is set between the timeline of Alien (1979) by Ridley Scott, and the sequel Aliens (1986) by James Cameron.

An important fact about this new film is that unlike the other installments that focused on adults in corporate, military and scientific roles, this ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young people.

SYNOPSIS:

“ALIEN: ROMULUS returns to the roots of the blockbuster ALIEN franchise. While exploring the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Alvarez co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (remake Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Don’t Breathe 2remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and produced the feature film in company of Ridley Scottdirector of the original classic and the prequels Prometheus y Alien: Covenant.

The original classic Alien Ridley Scott's 1979 film ended with a shot of protagonist Sigourney Weaver ejecting a Xenomorph from its escape pod before being put into a cryogenic sleep that would return her to human civilization. The sequel, Aliens Cameron's 1986 film picked up the plot years later, as Ripley accompanied a military mission investigating a possible Xenomorph attack on a remote space colony.
