The streamer Paramount+ begins to prepare the audience for the Premiere in September of the psychological thriller Apartment 7Awhich serves as a prequel to the horror classic Rosemary’s Baby (1968) by Roman Polanski.

The prequel is written and directed by Natalie Erika James (Relic), and starring Julia Garner (Ozark) and Vanity Fair is featuring first looks at the actress and other cast members.

The plot takes us back to New York City, now in the year 1965. The outlet explains how the prequel is connected to the original film:

“Julia Garner’s character Terry (originally played by Angela Dorian) is a young woman who crosses paths with Rosemary in the basement laundry room of The Bramford. Terry explains that the Castevets rescued her from homelessness and drug abuse, welcoming her into their lives and giving her free room and board.”

In addition to Garner, the main cast includes Dianne Wiest (Mayor of Kingstown), Jim Sturgess (One Day), y Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean). Other cast members include Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean), y The fatal Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka).

The Paramount film earned the Classification R by “Some violent content and drug use.”

SYNOPSIS:

“When a young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn to dark forces when a quirky, well-connected elderly couple promises her a shot at fame. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story before Roman Polanski’s horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in.”

It is based on the novel Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin. The story was written by Skylar Jameswith a script by Natalie Erika James, Christian Whiteand Skylar James.

Jeff Grossman, executive VP of programming for Paramount+, previously said in a press release:

“Apartment 7A is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season. Director Natalie Erika James and the talented creative team have created a chilling and clever new entry into the genre.”

The Paramount Plus original film is made in association with Paramount Pictures, Platinum Dunes, Sunday Night Production. It is based on the novel Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin.

Producers are John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. Executive producers are Vickie Dee Rock and Alexa Ginsburg.

Paramount Plus has set the premiere in the United States and select international markets for September 27, 2024.
