A24 officially started the marketing campaign for the film adaptation of the viral Internet horror phenomenon creepypasta, The Backrooms.

The film company revealed the first official poster of the project and its release date. And be careful, tomorrow a first preview will be released.

The poster displays a somber, liminal style that turned the concept into a resounding success, showing endless yellow hallways bathed in intense fluorescent lighting. The poster also indicates that the film will now be called Backrooms.

A24 will release the film in theaters on May 29, 2026.

The creator of creepypasta, Kane Parsonsis on board the project as director. With just 20 years, becomes the youngest director of an A24 project.

It is Parsons' debut as a feature film director. Directs the script written by Will Soodik (Ash vs Evil Dead, Westworld, Homeland).

The main cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Life of Chuck, 12 Years a Slave) y Renate Reinsve (Presumed Innocent, The Worst Person in the World) as protagonists, with Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), Find Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), y Avan Jogi (Zombieland: Double Tap).

Plot details have not been revealed, although we know that it adapts the terrifying YouTube shorts, which became a creepypasta phenomenon on the Internet, accumulating almost 200 million views since its debut on YouTube in early 2022.

Backrooms is produced by A24, Atomic Monster of James Wan21 Laps Entertainment de Shawn Levyy Chernin Entertainment.

A24 and Chernin Entertainment are also co-financiers.

Wan and Levy are producers along with Patino, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine and Chris Ferguson. Executive producers are Judson Scott, Alayna Glasthal, and Chris White.

It seems safe to assume that the feature film would be another found footage horror film, which with the support of A24 and Wan, a final product is expected to be horrifying and, with Parsons as director, surely faithful to the original.

The feature film was produced in Canada in the summer of 2025.
