Bad Bunny se suma a ‘Happy Gilmore 2’; Julie Bowen y Christopher McDonald retoman roles originales

With filming underway, the sequel Happy Gilmore 2 announces a new signing and the return of members of the original 1996 film (via THR).

The superstar of the reggaeton genre, Benito Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunnyis added in a role that has not been detailed at the moment.

The Grammy winner has tried his hand at film with movies like Bullet Train y Cassandroas well as on the small screen with the series Narcos: Mexico. He will next be seen in the thriller Caught Stealing by Darren Aronofsky.

Other cast news announces the returns of Julie Bowen y Christopher McDonald reprising their roles from the original film as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, the love interest of the character of Adam Sandler and the antagonist, respectively.

Recently, Sandler revealed that the NFL player, Travis Kelcewill have a cameo in the sequel.

Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery) directs the script written by Sandler y Tim Herlihy.

Sandler, Herlihy, Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds are the producers. Dennis Dugan, the director of the original, is an executive producer along with Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Baush and Barry Bernardi.

Happy Gilmoreone of the most popular films in Sandler's extensive filmography, follows his failed hockey player with a powerful backhand and a volatile temper. When Happy's grandmother, who raised him, is threatened with eviction from her home due to unpaid taxes, Happy discovers that he has a natural talent for golf, specifically for hitting the ball incredible distances. With the help of retired professional golfer Chubbs Peterson, (played by the late Carl Weathers), he decides to join the PGA Tour in order to earn enough money to save his grandmother's house. However, Happy's unorthodox and aggressive style of play clashes with traditional golf etiquette, making him unpopular with PGA officials and other players such as McGavin, a cocky and arrogant golfer who views Happy as a threat to his own professional aspirations.

The Universal Pictures film grossed more than $82 million at the global box office and remains a fan favorite among Sandler.

Happy Gilmore 2 will be distributed by Netflix.
