'Beckham' wins Best Documentary at the 2024 Emmys

During the nights of Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, the Emmy Awards 2024 They delivered the Creative Arts Emmys.

The Creative Arts Emmys hand out 99 awards during the weekend leading up to the 2024 Emmys, in categories that are not televised live, including best documentary, best guest actors, best reality show, variety programs, and technical categories such as best sound, among others.

One of the big winners at the Creative Arts Emmys, was Beckhamwho took home the award as Best Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

At the original documentary by Netflixis based on the life of the football icon, David Beckham.

The Oscar winners, Fisher Stevens (Palmer, And We Go Green, The Cove) y John Battsek (One Day in September, Searching for Sugar Man, Winter on Fire) are the director and executive producer, respectively.

The docuseries premiered its 4 parts on Netflix in October 2023.

Beckham combines previously unpublished images from the last 40 years, with interviews with Victoria BeckhamDavid's wife, with Sir Alex Fergusonthe former Manchester United manager, as well as former teammates such as Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinandy Roy Keaneand Beckham's parents, Ted and Sandra.

The docuseries also addresses the controversial 2003 “bootgate incident,” in which the footballer was hit in the face by a boot kicked by Alex Ferguson in the Manchester United dressing room, which caused countless headlines around the world. It also discusses the media circus Beckham was subjected to over his personal life, and the scrutiny over the red card he received in the England vs Argentina match at the 1998 World Cup in France.

Following a 21-year career in professional football (1992-2013), having played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and PSG, Beckham retired and launched his independent management company, Studio 99, through which he has created and produced a variety of content. Studio 99 is co-founded by Beckham, his manager David Gardner and Nicola Howson.

The Creative Arts ceremonies were held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Highlights will be included in an edited presentation on September 14 during the live broadcast of the 2024 Emmys.
