Bette Midler asks Disney to hurry up with the script for 'Hocus Pocus 3'

Disney announced that it has launched Hocus Pocus 3 in June 2023, but the scripts seem not to be ready yet.

Bette Midlerwho plays Winnie in the beloved franchise Hocus Pocusis asking Disney to speed up the pace, as time is of the essence, and neither she nor her co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker y Kathy Najimythey are getting younger. In an interview with QVC+ “Busy This Week” (via EW) she explained:

“I haven't seen the script, but I've heard rumors. I think if they're going to do it, they should do it, because time isn't just passing, time is hurtling toward the finish line. Catch us while we're still breathing, I mean, God!”

In December 2023, and following the end of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, Jen D'Angeloscreenwriter of the second installment, who returns to write the script for the third film, said he was working on the new story of the Sanderson sisters, thinking about being able to once again feature the return of Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, the classic characters played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker y Kathy Najimyrespectively.

D'Angelo said:

“We're still in the story phase, we're still working on it. We've been working on some ideas, and it's been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions to go and so many new characters to explore.”

“We have only scratched the surface of the witch mother of Hannah Waddingham.”

Asked whether Waddingham is the same “mother” the Sanderson Sisters refer to in the original 1993 film, D'Angelo confirmed:

“I think she's that mother, she's the mother of the scorpion cake and they had a much more meaningful relationship with her than we have yet to see. But maybe we will see that.”

“Everything is on the table.”

“I hope we get to explore all aspects of these stories and take these characters on a lot of fun adventures. Hocus Pocus 3 is still in the early stages, we don’t really know what it is, but we’re exploring all options and I think everyone’s been thrilled with the reaction that Hocus Pocus 2 had, and we’re excited to continue those stories.”

Hocus Pocus 2titled in our market Abracadabra 2set its plot almost three decades after the events of the original, leading to the Sanderson sisters being awakened in present times. The sequel was directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) with Guion de D'Angelo (Workaholics).
