Cailee Spaeny and Drew Starkey to star in A24's 'Deep Cuts'

A24 found the protagonists of Deep Cutsa film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Holly Brickley.

Cailee Spaeny y Drew Starkey will lead the cast of the writer and director's project Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Iron Claw), according to reports from Deadline.

Both actors have collaborated with the independent film studio previously; Spaeny in Civil War (2024), Priscilla (2023), and Starkey in Queer (2024). Durkin, for his part, directed The Iron Claw for A24.

The feature film was originally going to star Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler, however, both actors had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts, so A24 began searching for a new pair of leads.

Filming will begin in February 2026.

Set in the 2000s, Deep Cuts is a love story about two twenty-somethings obsessed with music who navigate the confusing realities of ambition, belonging, and adulthood over the course of an era-defining decade..

Grammy winner Blake Mills will compose original music for the film.

Producers will be Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie, along with Durkin, Anthony Katagas, Jordan Tappis and A24. Brickley will executive produce.

In addition to collaborating with A24 for the big screen, Spaeny is partnering with the studio on the second season of the Emmy-winning series, Beef.

Other of his projects have been the films Alien: Romulus y Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mysteryand the series Mare of Easttown de HBO.

Starkey, for his part, had his breakthrough role in Queer. We will see it soon in the series Lucky from Apple.
