Channing Tatum and his producing partner Reid Carolin had been working for four years on developing a stand-alone film. Gambit for 20th Century Fox, when the project was cancelled following Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019.

Tatum finally got a chance to suit up as the mutant Gambit in a cameo in the blockbuster Deadpool & WolverineThe actor hopes his involvement can breathe new life into the solo project Gambit.

In an interview with Variety at the premiere of the thriller Blink Twicestarring Tatum, the actor said:

“I hope so. From your mouth to the ears of God. Write it down so that it exists, my friend. Please.”

Tatum has already informed the head of Marvel Studios and Disney of his wishes:

“Of course I’ve said that. I’ve been saying I want it for 10 years. It’s in the hands of Bob Iger and Kevin Feige. I pray to God.”

A few days after the theatrical release of Deadpool & WolverineTatum thanked Ryan Reynolds with an Instagram post, for the opportunity to play Gambit on the big screen:

“I thought I lost Gambit forever,” but Reynolds “fought for me and for Gambit. I probably owe him something forever. Because I’m not sure how I could ever do anything that would equal what this has meant to me. I love you, man.”

In Blink Twicepreviously titled Pussy IslandTatum plays tech billionaire Slater King, who invites his friends and a group of women to a private island for a weekend getaway. What begins as a thrilling vacation soon turns into a reality-altering nightmare.

The feature film marks the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz. It opens in theaters on August 23.

SYNOPSIS:
