Ingredients

  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (e.g. canola oil)

  • 1 cup of water

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

  • A bit of salt

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a cake tin with oil or line with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the oil, water, apple cider vinegar and vanilla essence.
  • Combine the liquid ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix well until you obtain a homogeneous dough. 
    Do not stir excessively, just enough to incorporate all the ingredients.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • After it has cooled, you can decorate the cake however you wish, with icing, fruit, or whatever you prefer.
