'Deadpool & Wolverine' is the highest-grossing R-rated film in the US

Ten days in theaters were enough for Deadpool & Wolverine to break an important historical record.

The film from Marvel Studios and the director Shawn Levy It grossed $97 million at the domestic box office in its second weekend, increasing its Total domestic (U.S.) at $395.6 million.

What does that mean? That the sequel became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history at the domestic box office, without adjustments for inflationbreaking the twenty-year record held by The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Mel Gibson and its $370 million dollars.

At the global box office, it has now grossed $824.1 million, surpassing the global total of the previous two installments, Deadpool ($782.6 mdd), y Deadpool 2 ($734.5 mdd).

Deadpool 3brings together on the big screen Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine for the first time since X-Men: Origins: Wolverine (2009). It also marks the official arrival of Deadpool and Wolverine to Marvel Studios' MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine It is the first installment of the saga to be released by the Walt Disney Company, following Disney's massive acquisition of Fox in 2019. This did not alter the R rating franchise feature.

The first installment followed the antihero seeking revenge against Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man who turned him into a mutant and left him disfigured. The second film focused on Deadpool assembling the X-Force team to battle the time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin). Both films broke records upon their respective releases in 2016 and 2018, with openings of $132.4 million and $186 million, respectively — historic for an R-rated film.

In Deadpool & WolverineDeadpool enlists Wolverine's help to save his world. Reluctantly, the mutants must join forces.

The sequel features the returns of Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Karan Soni (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), The return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, a character she played in Daredevil (2003) and for the last time in the 2005 solo spinoff, Patrick Stewart (X-Men), the surprise cameo of Dafne Keenreprising her role as Laura/X-23 from Logan (2017), and many other cameos.

New additions include Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Emma Corrin (The Crown).

Levy, Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner serve as producers, with Louis D'Esposito, George Dewey, Wendy Jacobson, Simon Kinberg, Jonathon Komack Martin, Josh McLagen, Mary McLagen, Reese and Wernick serving as executive producers.
