Ten days in theaters were enough for Deadpool & Wolverine to break an important historical record.

The film from Marvel Studios and the director Shawn Levy It grossed $97 million at the domestic box office in its second weekend, increasing its Total domestic (U.S.) at $395.6 million.

What does that mean? That the sequel became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history at the domestic box office, without adjustments for inflationbreaking the twenty-year record held by The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Mel Gibson and its $370 million dollars.

At the global box office, it has now grossed $824.1 million, surpassing the global total of the previous two installments, Deadpool ($782.6 mdd), y Deadpool 2 ($734.5 mdd).

Deadpool & Wolverine It is the first installment of the saga to be released by the Walt Disney Company, following Disney's massive acquisition of Fox in 2019. This did not alter the R rating franchise feature.

The first installment followed the antihero seeking revenge against Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man who turned him into a mutant and left him disfigured. The second film focused on Deadpool assembling the X-Force team to battle the time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin). Both films broke records upon their respective releases in 2016 and 2018, with openings of $132.4 million and $186 million, respectively — historic for an R-rated film.

New additions include Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Emma Corrin (The Crown).
