Warner Bros. kicked off the marketing campaign for one of the high-profile releases of 2026: Dune: Part Three.

The franchise Dune of Legendary and the filmmaker Denis Villeneuve returns this year to give us a “final epic”.

But be careful, co-writer and director Villeneuve has made it clear that the first two films complete his version of the story that adapts the science fiction epic of Frank Herbertwhile the third installment will offer an epilogue which draws heavily on Herbert's first sequel, the novel Dune Messiah.

In 2024, Villeneuve spoke about the film and stated that the next installment “it will not be the culmination of a trilogy”in his opinion.

“First, it's important for people to understand that, for me [las dos primeras] They were really a diptych. Actually, they were a couple of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That is done and that is finished. If I do a third one, which is in the process of being written, it won't be like a trilogy. It's strange to say it, but if I come back, it's to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”

Furthermore, prior to the premiere of Dune 2Villeneuve stated: “Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for me.”

Directed by Villeneuve and with a script written by Villeneuve y Brian K. Vaughan, Dune: Part Threegives us the epic conclusion of Dune on big screen.

The film has a cast headed by Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach De Bankolé, Jason Momoacon Charlotte Rampling, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson y Javier Bardemand introduces new talents Nakoa-Wolf Momoa e Ida Brooke.

Dune: Part Three will follow an exhausted Emperor Paul Atreides, many years after the second part, as he struggles with the consequences of his holy war.

During the presentation of the teaser trailer to the press, Villeneuve shared the following about the sequel:

“It happens many years later. It's a very different film from the first two. I said to myself: 'It's a good idea to return to this world, not out of nostalgia, but out of urgency.' And to return with a critical eye, without falling into complacency. And I told my team that it would be a very different, very different movie., a new moviebut with a different tone, with a different rhythm”.

“'Dune Messiah'” is, without a doubt, my favorite book in the series. It's a very dark book, a beautiful book,” said the filmmaker. “I would say it's one of my most personal films, if not the most personal. It is a film very close to me and very current.”

the movie includes sequences recorded with IMAX camerasa format whose relevance continues to rise.

The first film was released in 2021, while the sequel Dune: Part Two hit theaters in March 2024. Both are distributed by Warner Bros. Both installments had a positive reception from critics and audiences, with a combined box office of $1.12 billion in the global box office. They won eight Oscars (with 15 nominations).

In November 2024, the prequel television series premiered, Dune: Prophecy on HBO Max, with a plot set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides. It is renewed for a second season.
