The actor Eric Dane He died on the afternoon of this Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the age of 53, according to information shared by his family.
Dane reached the end of a brave battle against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS, which he made public in April 2025. In the following months he progressed steadily.
The actor rose to international fame with his participation in the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy on ABC, where he played Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed by cast members as “McSteamy.” His work on the series earned him recognition and undoubtedly a place in pop culture. Most recently, Dane was part of the HBO series, Euphoriagiving life to Cal Jacobs, a complex character and father of the character played by Jacob Elordi. His participation in the third season is confirmed, with a premiere scheduled for this year.
According to a statement issued by his family and confirmed by People, Dane spent his last days surrounded by close friends, his wife, also an actress, Rebecca Gay Heartand their two daughters, Billie and Georgia. The family asked for privacy as they go through this difficult time:
“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Eric Dane passed away Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and two beautiful daughters, who were the center of his life.”
Dane publicly announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, revealing that he was grateful for his family's support and planned to continue working while dealing with his illness. ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control and paralysis.
During the year following his diagnosis, Dane continued to participate in support projects and activities. He planned to attend events to support ALS research, although physical limitations related to his disease prevented him from attending some engagements.
