On August 15, it was released in theaters around the world Alien: Romulusa new installment of the horror and science fiction saga Aliendirected by the director and co-writer Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead).

Romulus is described as “an original independent feature film,” whose plot is set between the timeline from the original classic Alien (1979) by Ridley Scott, and the sequel Aliens (1986) by James Cameron.

Unlike the other installments that focused on adults in corporate, military and scientific roles, this ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young peoplewho face Xenomorphs approximately 20 years after Alienand 30 years before Aliens.

During the promotion of the film, Alvarez shared with the media that Romulus has a connection to the rest of the films in the saga. Part of that connection is clearly visible in a cameo in the film, which we won't spoil in case you haven't seen it yet.

Although we will mention that in Romulus It is acknowledged that there was a survivor of the Nostromo disaster, a nod to Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). We also get a brief glimpse of the wreck of the USCSS Nostromo at the beginning of Alvarez's film.

Perhaps another of those connections could be the easter egg de Ellen Ripley that Alvarez hid in Romulus.

But first, a little context.

By the time the plot of Romulus takes place, Ellen Ripley was aboard an escape shuttle where she was for 57 years after the events of the first installment. This means that during RomulusRipley is still floating en route to Sulaco. We know this thanks to the events that unfold in Aliens Cameron's.

And now we move on to what Alvarez told the ReelBlend Podcast about the easter egg that would show Ripley's whereabouts that apparently went unnoticed by those who have already seen Alien: Romulus:

“I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. Because no one knows exactly what happened in all those years that she was adrift. I can’t say more. I think for legal reasons, I can’t say more. I would say it’s not impossible. I think it’s totally possible that she was part of this story in some way.”

“There are some things I’ve hidden in that film that are the answer to this question. It’s very well hidden. But they’re hidden in plain sight.”

Easter eggs are “some clues that I have put in the movie [que] “It kind of defeats the whole purpose” if you reveal everything at this stage of the game, Alvarez said.

Romulus It stars Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla, Mare of Easttown), Isabela Merced (Tansformers: The Last Knight, Instant Family), Archie Renaux (Upgraded, The Other Zoey), David Johnson (Industry), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), y Aileen Wu.

SYNOPSIS:

“ALIEN: ROMULUS returns to the roots of the blockbuster ALIEN franchise. While exploring the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Alvarez co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (remake Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Don’t Breathe 2remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and produced the feature film in company of Ridley Scottdirector of the original classic and the prequels Prometheus y Alien: Covenant.

The original classic Alien Ridley Scott's 1979 film ended with a shot of protagonist Sigourney Weaver ejecting a Xenomorph from its escape pod before being put into a cryogenic sleep that would return her to human civilization. The sequel, Aliens Cameron's 1986 film picked up the plot years later, as Ripley accompanied a military mission investigating a possible Xenomorph attack on a remote space colony.
