New Line Cinema launched the relaunch of the slasher horror saga Final Destination (Final Destination in our market) in January 2019, giving the green light to the development of a sixth film, Final Destination 6official title, Final Destination: Bloodlines.
The latest news reveals that ¡Final Destination: Bloodlines will have a traditional release in theaters and in IMAX format! This was confirmed by Jeffrey Reddickcreator and screenwriter of the saga, with a post on X/Twitter. Last March, producer Craig Perry had mentioned the same thing that was confirmed today by Reddick.
The project was once intended to be released exclusively on Max. It is currently in post-production.
He The theatrical release is set for 2025. The same year as the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment of the franchise.
Bloodlines is directed by Zach Lipovsky y Adam B. Steina duo known to their colleagues as “Zadam,” who made their film debut with the sci-fi thriller Freaks (2018).
Lipovsky and Stein direct the script written by Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest) y Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Scream 5, Scream 6).
In addition to Craig Perry y Sheila Hanahan Taylor (producers of the original saga), other producers include Jon Watts (saga Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home)next to Dianne McGunigle (Atlanta, Cop Car), Watts' wife and manager.
The following was previously revealed about the concept of the new installment:
“Plot details are being kept under lock and key, but the central concept remains: A character has a premonition of a horrific, deadly event, cheats his own death and saves several lives in the process, only to have Death, as a personified but unstoppable force, come for the survivors one by one.”
Reddick, creator of the saga Final Destinationhe commented some time ago to Dread Central (via Fangoria) about a change in the classic formula used in the saga Final destination:
“I'll say that It's not going to be just another kind of 'we set up a group of people, they cheat death and then death catches them'. And there's one thing that we add to every movie, to change it up a little bit: This is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn't follow that kind of formula that we've established.“I am very excited about the story that I cannot tell you.”
To the saga Final Destinationbegan in 2000 with the film created by Reddick and directed by James Wong, starring Devon Sawa and Ali Larter. Minutes before taking a plane to France on a school trip, the character played by Sawa has visions about him and his friends, where he sees how the plane will have a terrifying accident upon takeoff, in which everyone will lose their lives. The young man warns about what will happen and manages to save the lives of a few who trust his judgment and others who, during the disturbance, get off the plane before the accident happens. From this moment on, Death will pursue and hunt them down one by one, because no one escapes their destiny. This is the formula that will be changed in the new installment.
The film grossed $112 million at the global box office on a $23 million budget. It was followed by four sequels, the most recent of which was Final Destination 5 released in 2011. The franchise grossed nearly $700 million at the global box office, and became one of the biggest hits for New Line Cinema. It is the studio's third highest-grossing horror saga, behind The Conjuring (more than $2 billion) and IT (more than $1 billion).
