CONTROVERSY, RESHOOTS, AND POSSIBLE SEQUEL

Due to the information shared in its synopsis, and the lack of official information, it was doubted that the plot would address any of the controversies that surrounded the superstar's life. In recent days, Variety made it official that this will be the case: the film will refrain from narrating the controversies, much like what was done by another biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), and very different from Rocketman (2019), which did not hesitate to bring to the big screen in its entirety, everything about the fantastic story of Elton John.

According to media reports, the biopic had to modify its original third actwhich addressed allegations against MJ of child abuse, after attorneys for Jackson's estate, who are involved as producers, became aware of the existence of a legal clause from one of the singer's accusers, Jordan Chandler, that prohibited his representation or mention in any film.

This in turn caused the realization of reshoots with a cost of $10 million to $15 million dollarsfocused on a new ending. The total budget is around $200 million dollars, so the film will have to make an approximate global box office of $500 million dollars or more, to “break even.” Any figure greater than that will register profits.

Because The previous original montage has a duration of more than 3 and a half hoursthe producer Graham King (also producer, by the way, of the aforementioned Bohemian Rhapsody) is enthusiastic about being able to convert Michael a story of two parts. Lionsgate and Universal studios, They believe there is enough material that could be reused for at least one more film. What remains unclear is how the potential future sequel would address the legal battles and abuse allegations that marked much of Jackson's final years. King has told studios that he would focus on MJ's latest albums, including Dangerous (1991) e Invincible (2001), as well as the purchase and construction of Neverland Ranch, and his love for animals.

We emphasize that the film Michael, does not have the support of all members of the Jackson familycon Janet Jackson, y Paris Jackson y Bigi Jackson –Michael's middle and youngest children– completely disassociating themselves from the project. In fact, Janet asked not to be included in the film's story, and was critical of aspects of the plot after the Jackson family was invited to a private screening of the film. Michael's mother, Katherine Jacksonwithdrew its support for the film. Michael's only child involved is his oldest son, Prince Jackson.

Michael is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer), with a script written by John Logan (Gladiator, Skyfall, Penny Dreadful).

The rest of the cast includes Colman Domingo (Selma, The Color Purple) y Nia Long (Missing, You People) as Joe and Katherine Jackson, Michael's parents, and Miles Teller (Whiplash, Top Gun: Maverick) as John Branca, manager, and one of the co-executors of MJ's estate.

Jessica Sula es LaToya Jackson, Lawrence Tate is Berry Gordon, founder of Motown Records, Laura Harrier as pioneering music executive Suzanne de Passe and Cat Graham like Diana Ross.

Michael's brothers and members of the Jackson 5 are played by Jayden Harville as the younger version of Jermaine, and Jamal R. Henderson (Mindhunter) in its adult version; Jaylen Lyndon Hunter like young Marlon and Three Hortons (My Enemy Alpha) in its adult version; Judah Edwards like young Tito and Rhyan Hill (The Michael Blackson Show) in its adult version; Nathaniel Logan McIntyre like young Jackie and Joseph David-Jones (Roman J. Israel, Esq.) in its adult version.
