The fifth season of The Boys is officially underway. The creator and showrunner Erik Kripkeshare with fans the first look behind the scenes at the start of filming of what will be the last season of the series Prime Video.
In the image revealed by Kripke on Instagram, we can see the showrunner with Chace Crawford as The Deep, along with Anthoy Starr like Homelander and Nathan Mitchell like Black Noir.
The main cast also includes Karl Urban like Butcher, Erin Moriarty like Annie/Starlight, Jack Quaid like Hughie, Jessie T. Usher like A-Train, Laz Alonso like MM, Tomer Capone like Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara like Kimiko, and Cameron Crovetti Like Ryan. Daveed Diggs (Blindspottingserie Snowpiercer) is one of the new additions for the fifth and final season.
Filming for the fifth season was officially confirmed with a post from the showrunner showing the title page of the premiere script. This, in turn, continued the tradition of revealing the title of the first episode before production. Episode 1 of the fifth season will be officially titled “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite” (Fifteen inches of pure dynamite), demonstrating that the humor of The Boys remains intact.
Prior to the broadcast of the fourth season, it was revealed that the series will say goodbye with a fifth installment.
Previously Kripke said of the impending series finale:
“I'm lucky to be able to maintain my denial for quite a while because I'm so busy right now… The amount of work is so intense that I think I at some point in the middle of the season it will affect me, and it will affect me emotionally. I have been voluntarily denying it. I haven't fully assimilated it. That will be difficult.”
““We have a clear idea of where everyone is going, emotionally.”.
The Boys traces a story that satires the role of superheroes, presenting a world where they abuse their power and cross unthinkable limits. Its first season premiered on the streamer in 2019, becoming an immediate hit with both critics and audiences.
The story is based on the New York Times bestselling comic of the same name, by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
The Boys has been praised for its sarcastic humor, its satirical exploration of politics, as well as its shocking moments of violence and gore. The cast's performances have also been applauded.
At the end of July, Kripke told what we can expect from the final season:
“As far as we’re concerned, it’s our show’s version of the apocalypse.”
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, with Krikpe Enterprises, Original Film and Point Gray Pictures.
Prime Video has not revealed when the final season of The BoysHowever, as production began at the end of November, it is likely that the premiere will not be until 2026.
