At the end of 2025, James Cameron will take us once again to live a new adventure to Pandora, with the release in theaters of the third installment of the franchise Avatarofficially titled Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Previously, Cameron announced that Avatar 3 will feature a more antagonistic race of Na'vi. That information was later supplemented by franchise producer Jon Landau, who told Empire Magazine in early 2024 that The group is the Ash People, described as “an aggressive volcanic race” of Na'vi whose leader is Varang.played by Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter, Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones).
Avatar: Fire and Ash will then take Jake's family (Sam Worthington) y Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) into uncharted territory, to meet this new generation of Na'vi, where things might not go as well as they did with Metkayina in Avatar: The Way of Water.
Regarding the presentation of the “Ash Clan”, Cameron commented in a new interview with Empire Magazine, the following:
“Varang is the leader of a people who have been through incredible adversity. It toughened her. She will do anything for them, even things we would consider evil. One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be simplistic in black and white. “We're trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm.”
Regarding Chaplin's interpretation, the filmmaker comments:
“She's so good that I didn't appreciate how good her performance is until we got the Wētā animation back.” Don't expect a lot of “I'll see you's” between her and Jake. “She's an enemy, an adversary character,” Cameron notes, “but [Chaplin] It makes her feel so real and alive.”
The outlet shares the first official look at Chaplin, and another image of the Wind Traders, of whom Cameron says:
“They are nomadic traders, equivalent to the camel caravans of the Spice Route in the Middle Ages. And, you know, they're just fun. Like all Na'vi, they live in symbiosis with their creatures. If you have nautical blood in your veins, you will want to be in [su] barco.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash premieres in theaters worldwide on December 19, 2025.
