Bleecker Street kicks off marketing campaign for body horror comedy Slantedrevealing the first looks at its main cast, and its release date.
Con theatrical release scheduled for March 13, 2026the studio debuts official images of the cast led by Mckenna Grace (Scream 7, Five Nights at Freddy’s), Shirley Chen (Didi), Vivian Wu (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever), Amelie Zilber (Grown-ish), y Catch you.
In Slanted:
“In her senior year of high school, Joan Huang (Chen) idolizes being a prom queen as the personification of popularity, beauty, and ultimate acceptance in American life. In her tireless pursuit of the crown, she goes to a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic and undergoes a racial transformation to become white and become a prom queen. Joan undergoes the procedure and awakens a beautiful blonde destined for the crown, but at what price?”
Amy Wang is the screenwriter and director of Slanted; the project marks his feature film debut. The film had its world premiere at the 2025 SXSW Festival, taking home the Grand Jury Prize for Fiction.
Wang has directed episodes of Blindspotting from Starz and The Birchafter winning a Cannes Lion for his short film Unnatural in 2018.
The film is advertised as a “scathing and unapologetically satirical take on race and the uncomfortable journey of learning to love yourself and your culture”.
Of his project, Wang said:
“Slanted offers a scathing, unapologetically satirical take on race and what it means to be white. At the center of this film is a Chinese girl who just wants to feel accepted as an American.”
“This is a deeply personal film that delves into insecurities and exposes the twisted realities of a fractured identity. I made this film in the hope that by exposing my wounds as a Chinese-Australian woman, I can help others heal their own doubts.”
Producers are Wang, Trevor Wall, Adel “Future” Nur, Cameron Boling, and Mark Ankner, with Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew serving as executive producers. Tideline Entertainment and Mountain Top Pictures produce.
Bleecker Street premieres Slanted in theaters March 13.
