slasher horror comedy Family Movieit's a family affair for the Bacon family.
The actors and husbands Kevin Bacon y Kyra Sedgwick directs the feature film, in addition to starring in it with his children Travis Bacon y Bacon sauce (Smile).
The film follows a family of four in the world of cinema, eclectic but very close-knit, who They suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a dead body appears on the set of their latest low-budget horror movie.. As the production comically spirals out of control, they realize that the only solution to continue filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.
Jack Smith (Kevin Bacon) is a failed independent filmmaker in the horror world, and Ellen (Kyra Sedgwick) is his understanding wife and long-time leading lady. His daughter, Ula (Sosie), is also an actress and, unbeknownst to her father, plans to leave her latest horror film to accept a role in a television series. His brother, Trent (Travis), is a musician and pole vault operator with dreams of becoming an MMA fighter.
Despite major financial problems, the family comes together to help Jack make what could be his last film, but the production is derailed when they discover that Ellen has more in common with the psychopathic killers in his films than anyone imagined.
Entertainment Weekly debuted the first official looksavailable at the end of the note. The images give a taste of the fun family dynamic. And as for whether we can expect more Bacon family movies in the future, Kevin told EW, “We would do it again in a heartbeat.”
The script was written by Dan Beers (Premature). This is the horror project Sedgwick talked about in June 2024.
Dark Castle Entertainment produces the feature film, along with the four members of the Bacon clan for Mixed Breed Films, and Norman Golightly of Dark Castle Entertainment.
Horror cinema is not a foreign genre for Bacon and Sedgwick; Bacon has starred in classics such as Friday the 13th y Tremorsand more recent titles such as You Should Have Left, They/Them, Leave the World Behindy MaXXXinewhile Sedgwick starred The Possession (2012).
As for films co-starring both of them, we have Murder in the First (1995), The Woodsman (2004), Cavedweller (2004), Cop Car (2014), and more recently Connescencewhich wrapped filming in the summer.
Sosie Bacon, for her part, is recognized for her compelling lead performance in the horror hit Smile by Parker Finn, playing a therapist whose patient commits suicide in one of her sessions, thus giving him a demonic identity that stalks his victims until he possesses and kills them. Her other acting credits include Mare of Easttown y Here and Now from HBO, and 13 Reasons Why from Netflix; His brother Travis is a screenwriter, producer, actor, musician and film soundtrack composer.
Family Movie premieres with its world premiere at the SWSW 2026 Festival this Friday March 13.
