Blumhouse y Universal Pictures continue preparing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’sadaptation of the popular video game created by Scott Cawthonwhich was announced onstage at CinemaCon last April.

Emma Tammi (The Wind) resumes her duties as director of the sequel, to which they will also return Josh Hutcherson as security guard Mike Schmidt and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) as the antagonist Steve Raglan.

With filming scheduled to begin at the end of October, Lillard reveals to Collider's Perri Nemiroff that it will be in November when he begins filming his part:

This morning I received a text message with my dates. My dates are early November and another series of dates. So let's get to work. I'm very excited. I think the script is fantastic.”

“[Emma Tammi] It's great. It's really charming. And Josh is great. The entire cast is great and I think we're all excited to come back.. I think that We learned a lot in the first movie. I think the second movie will benefit from those things. “We're all excited about the state the movie is in right now.”

The first installment was released in theaters in October 2023 and broke a large number of records, including becoming the highest-grossing film in Blumhouse history in the global box office.

This was particularly notable for numerous reasons, including that Hollywood was still in the middle of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike, which meant that actors couldn't do any kind of promotion for their projects.

Lillard remembers the occasion telling the outlet:

“The last time the movie came out, none of us could promote it because we were all on strike, and it was on Peacock but no one really knew what was there. I knew this because I am among the children every weekend. I have kids wearing Five Nights clothes, a spring trap, or a Freddy costume. Like I said, it's turning around third base and coming home in a race to have something so iconic and loved by such a new generation. It's something special that everyone is very excited about. I hear about it all the time and I'm excited too.”

Just like in the first movie, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop He is in charge of the design of the animatronics.

“Five Nights at Freddy's follows a troubled security guard as he starts working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. As he spends his first night on the job, he realizes that the night shift won't be so easy to get through. The objective is Try to survive five nights as a night security guard at the aforementioned pizzeria, and avoid being caught by one of the animatronics of the establishment that come to life in a place very similar to Chuck E. Cheese. Can you survive in Five Nights at Freddy's?

Cawthon worked on the development of the theatrical adaptation as a producer, and co-writer with Tammi and Seth Cuddeback. Blumhouse de Jason Blum acquired the rights in 2015, and officially launched the project in February 2018.

In addition to Hutcherson and Lillard, the main cast was made up of Elizabeth Lail (You, Countdown) as police officer Vanessa, Mary Stuart Masterson (Some Kind of Wonderful, Daniel Isn’t Real) as the villain, Piper Rubio (How We Roll) as Abby, Mike Schmidt's little sister, and Kat Conner Sterling (The Gifted, 9-1-1, The Resident) as Max.

No plot details have been revealed so far, although the first film gave clear hints about where it might go next.

FNAF 2 opens in theaters on December 5, 2025.
