'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' is the highest-grossing global premiere of 2024

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empirethe fifth installment of the MonsterVerse from Warner Bros. and Legendary arrived in theaters around the world during the Easter weekend, from where it celebrated great box office results.

The sequel was placed at number 1 in the box office ranking in the United States, where it compiled a box office debut of $80 million dollars:

• It is the second highest-grossing debut in the US behind Dune: Part Two.

At the international box office it accumulated another $114 million dollars, for a global total of $194 million, making it the best global opening of 2024!!

Prior to the launch of what is known as Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire in our market, the MonsterVerse accumulated $1,946 million; the premiere box office GxK has turned the MonsterVerse into a $2 billion+ cinematic universe!

The budget of GxK It was $135 million.

The MonsterVerse is also made up of the Apple TV+ series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, whose plot takes place within the timeline of this universe. The first season is available on the streamer. It has not yet been renewed for a second season.

The director's film Adam Wingard focuses on the iconic kaiju, who will be forced to leave their grudges behind to face common adversaries.

These new threats are Shimu, a titan that has slept for centuries, known as the strongest on the planet, the first titan to set foot on Earth, the original and first King of Monsters. And Skar King or Red Kong, an ancient beast King of the Hollow Earth who rivaled Kong's ancestors from Skull Island. He is described as a rogue titan of a species similar to Kong, taller and more aggressive. The film will mark the debut of both in the MonsterVerse.

Wingard returns as director after directing the previous installment. The script was written by Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest). Filming for Wingard took place primarily in Australia and Brazil, with locations also in Mexico, Hong Kong and Egypt.

The cast features the return of Rebecca Hall like Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry Like Bernie Hayes, Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla v Kong), and new members Dan Stevens (The Guest, Gaslit, The Rental) playing the Trapper, Speak Chen (Irma Vep, Shang-Chi) y Rachel House.
