Despite the name, Golden Gurls is a trio of guys from Baltimore who, according to a quick search online, had already made a good journey to reach their first (and so far only) album, this Typo magic which now plays on our virtual record player.
Who knows where Andy, Donald and Jesse, those guys from the band, are, but at the time of this album – and the demos present on their Bandcamp – their heads were certainly immersed in the guitar rock of the 90s. Sonic Youth, Pavement, Dino Jr and other guitar-driven contemporaries runs through the 11 songs of Typo magicand this is not a negative review.
Without long journeys (the longest song is 4 minutes), Golden Gurls manages to condense its references without blatantly plagiarizing any of them, but maintains the good old noise + melody structure – which pleases us so much here (more or less like the Ringo Deathstarr).
If you're one of us, turn up the volume and you can press play without fear of being happy. We guarantee satisfaction.
