HBO has one wish and that is to sign Mark Rylance as Dumbledore for the series Harry Potter that they have in development.
According to reports from Variety, Rylance is at the top of the podium of the network's favorite candidates to land the role. Although it is also specified that Warner Bros. TV has not entered into negotiations with the actor, it has asked about his schedule availability.
An HBO representative told the outlet:
“We are aware that such a high-profile series will generate a lot of rumors and speculation. “As we move forward into pre-production, we will only confirm details when we finalize agreements.”
Warner Bros. is looking for the three leading actors who will play Harry, Hermione and Ron. The casting is looking for young actors between 9 and 11 years old.
The film saga featured Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore in the first two installments. After his death in 2002, Michael Gambon replaced him in the role for the rest of the films.
The source explains that “One of the challenges will be to find talent who are willing to commit to a possible seven-season series (one corresponding to each book) and who are of the right age to carry it out.”
Rylance is 64 years old.
Rylance is a renowned actor, winner of the Oscar in 2016 for best supporting actor for his performance in the drama Bridge of Spies by Steven Spielberg. He worked again with the filmmaker on the animated film The BFG. His other credits include Dunkirk, The Trial of the Chicago 7, y Don’t Look Up.
Channing Dungey, head of WBTV, said earlier this year that the HBO series, which was announced in 2023, will be “deeper than what can be done in a two-hour movie… that's why we're on this journey.”
The series will premiere in 2026.
