Just a few moments ago, HBO Max revealed a first teaser trailer from the long-awaited original series of HBO, Harry Potter.
The series reinvents JK Rowling's seven-novel saga into a multi-season drama series, introducing a new Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, Snape, and all the other beloved characters, as well as a new Hogwarts.
The first season will adapt Rowling's first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stonewhich was already adapted by Warner Bros. and director Chris Columbus in 2001 for the big screen.
The teaser introduces all of the season's main characters and shows several iconic moments, such as the 11-year-old wizard meeting Ron, Hermione, Draco and Hagrid, obtaining his wand and trying out the Sorting Hat.
THE RELEASE DATE IS ADOPTED AND A NEW OFFICIAL TITLE IS ADOPTED FOR THE SERIES
The two surprises that accompany the preview are The confirmed premiere date of the series: Christmas 2026as it was not expected to be released before 2027; and the official title being Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for the English-speaking market, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the Spanish-speaking market.
With this, it is announced that each season the title of the series will change, to reflect the novel that is being adapted.
HBO describes it as:
“A faithful adaptation of JK Rowling's novels that will delve deeper into each of the iconic books. Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to new and existing audiences.”
The series features Dominic McLaughlin like Harry, Arabella Stanton like Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, while they are in their first year at Hogwarts.
Furthermore, we will have Nick Frost (trilogy Croissant) as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow (Conclave, The Crown) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (Ozark) like the Profesora Minerva McGonagall, Especially Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Black Doves) like the Profesor Severus Snape, Luke Thallon (Patriots) as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show) as Argus Filch.
Other cast members include Call Powley (The Morning Show), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell, Blade Runner 2099) giving life to Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively, Katherine Parkinson like Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt like Draco Malfoy, and Johnny Flynn like Lucius Malfoy. Leo Earley interpreted by Seamus Finnigan Alessia Leoni like Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah like Lavender Brown, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
Francesca Gardiner (Succession, Killing Eve, His Dark Materials) She is the screenwriter and showrunner of the series. Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones) is the director of several episodes and executive producer.
Filming for the series took place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, where the film franchise based on Rowling's novels was filmed.
HBO has plans for the series to run for more than a decade.
