Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes, peeled and cut into medium cubes

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 cup of milk

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

  • 500g of ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 1 tomato, chopped

  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped (optional)

  • 1 can of tomato sauce

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Olive oil for sautéing

  • Grated cheese to taste (optional)

Directions

  • Cook the potatoes in salted water until they are soft.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash them well.
  • In a pan, melt the butter and add the mashed potatoes.
  • Add the milk little by little, stirring constantly, until you obtain a creamy consistency.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste. 
    Reserve.
  • In a pan, heat the oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until it is completely browned.
  • Add the tomato and pepper, cooking for a few more minutes.
  • Add the tomato sauce, season with salt and black pepper to taste, and let it cook for about 15 to 20 minutes over low heat.
  • In a baking dish, place a layer of mashed potatoes.
  • Then add the ground beef filling.
  • Cover with another layer of mashed potatoes.
  • If desired, sprinkle grated cheese on top.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden.
  • Remove from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes and serve.
