Ingredients
2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
4 cups of wheat flour
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 can (400g) peeled tomato
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Oregano to taste
Grated mozzarella cheese
Optional ingredients: pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, onion, olives, ham, etc.
Directions
- In a small bowl, mix the yeast with the warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it starts to foam.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast and water mixture.
- Add the olive oil and mix until a homogeneous dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a bowl lightly greased with olive oil, cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- In a frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté until lightly browned.
- Add the peeled tomatoes, crushing them with a spoon. Season with salt, pepper and oregano to taste.
- Let the sauce cook over low heat for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C.
- Divide the dough into two parts and roll each one out on a floured surface, forming pizza discs.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Spread the tomato sauce over the pasta.
- Distribute the grated mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
- Add desired ingredients as topping.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for around 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
