Last weekend, theaters in the United States had the launch of two horror projects that were highly talked about among the community: Immaculate of NEON y Late Night with the Devil of IFC Films.
Both films were released successfully. We tell you the details.
IMMACULATE
NEON debuted on the big screen Immaculatethe film starring Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Anyone but You), what with an opening box office of $5.3 million dollars of 2,354 movie theaters, it was placed in fourth position in the national box office (USA) and It became the highest-grossing premiere in NEON's entire history.:
- It surpassed the premieres of other studio projects such as Ferrari, Parasite, Spencer e Infinity Pool.
The budget of Immaculate It was $9 million, so the chances of it becoming a lucrative production are high.
And Neon still has the premieres of anticipated horror projects such as Cuckoo (starring Hunter Schafer, another cast member of Euphoria), y Longlegsthe mysterious slasher starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage that has had a magnificent marketing campaign.
Regarding the plot of Immaculate, this follows Cecila (Sweeney), a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picturesque Italian countryside is soon cut short when Cecilia discovers that her new home hides some dark and gruesome secrets.
The film is directed by Michael Mohanwho previously directed Sweeney in the film The Voyeurs (available on Prime Video). The script was written by Andrew Lobel.
LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL
This horror project from IFC Films became the indie sensation of the genre after its premiere at the SCSW 2023 Festival. During the same year it toured the entire festival circuit and generated high expectations among critics.
Finally, a few days after being released in theaters, controversy hit the film after being entangled in accusations for the use of AI that generated online debates, and even the emergence of a movement that called for a boycott of the premiere.
Late Nate with the Devil debuted at number 6 on the billboardaccumulating a box office of $2.8 million debut of 1,034 movie theaters, becoming the highest-grossing release in IFC Films history. It will be released on Shudder on April 19.
The film, written and directed by the Australian filmmaker brothers Cameron Cairnes y Colin Cairnes (100 Blody Acres, Scare Campaign), and starring David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer, Boston Strangler), takes place during a live television broadcast in 1977 that goes horribly wrong and unleashes evil in the country's living rooms. The project is presented in format found-footage.
The plot follows charismatic late-night host Jack Delroy (Dastmalchian), the host of a fictional 1970s late-night variety and talk show titled Night Owls with Jack Delroy, who, in an effort to boost ratings, has invited a haunting guest lineup for his “Hail Mary” from an occult-focused Halloween broadcast. During this live television broadcast, havoc unfolds when Delroy interviews a parapsychologist (Laura Gordon) and the subject of his recent book, a young teenager (Ingrid Torelli) who was the only survivor of a satanic church mass suicide.
