'Inception', 'Clueless', 'The Thing', 'Before Sunrise' and more added to the National Film Registry

Like every year, the prestigious National Film Registry (National Film Registry by name in original language), selected 25 films to be preserved in the United States Library of Congressparent company of the National Film Preservation Board, in turn owned by the aforementioned organization, the National Film Registry.

The chosen films are contributions “cultural, historical or aesthetic”to be preserved in said library.

The selected feature films include titles such as Inception by Christopher Nolan, the classic comedy Clueless Amy Heckerling's romance drama Before Sunrise by Richard Linklater, science fiction horror The Thing by John Carpenter, the first installment The Karate Kidhistorical drama Philadelphiacomedy-drama The Truman Showthe choral comedy The Big Chillthe biopic Fridathe Pixar animated film, The Incredibles.

This year's selection also dates back to the silent film era, with six films from 1896 to 1926, such as The Tramp and the Dog y The Lady. We also find classic Hollywood with the 1954 musical, White Christmasand the rom-com High Society.

“By preserving films, we preserve American culture for future generations. These selections for the National Film Registry show us that films are essential to capturing important parts of our nation's history” “We are proud to continue this important work, adding a broad range of 25 films to the National Film Registry as a collective effort by the film community to protect our film heritage.”

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will host a television special on March 19 to screen some of the newly added films.

SOME CURIOUS FACTS:

• The selected films must be at least ten years old.
• The National Film Preservation Act established the council in 1988, and it was renewed by congressional acts in 1992, 1996, 2005, and most recently, 2008.
• The 25 selected for 2025, brings the total number of films on record to 925.
