The series IT: Welcome to Derry of HBO Max conquered the audience becoming one of the three best premieres of original series since the launch of HBO Max, only behind The Last of Us y House of the Dragonin addition to breaking its audience record.
With such reception from audiences and critics, it was guaranteed that HBO will quickly renew it for a second season, since the story is about a prequel series to the two films ITwhich takes us back to where ESO began, and the first season, or Chapter One, is just the beginning.
Andy Muschietti (director of both installments IT), is the executive producer, screenwriter, and director of Welcome to Derryand it has been clear from the beginning that the prequel series will be told in three seasons that They will take place in different times: 1962, 1935 y 1908respectively in that order.
So what happened to the second season?
More than three months have passed since the broadcast of the end of the first season, and neither the streamer nor the brothers Andy y Bárbara Muschietti They have spoken about it.
However, during an interview with Collider, both explained the reason for the delay and the future of the series:
“Yes, it will be official“, stated Bárbara Muschietti. “We are all working on it. We work, the studio works. We simply want it to come true and we need the material”.
Andy added:
“Sometimes announcements are delayed a bit due to agreements and so on. I don't want to go into too much detail, but the general intention is for it to become a reality.”.
Bárbara reaffirms the intentions of a second season:
“A lot of times, the announcements involve the studio declaring their confidence in the series. We don't need that because we're clearly fine. So, When we give the green light, it will be a definitive green light. It's not just 'Well, we'll try to release it so people can see it.' People have already seen it. “It's good.”
The plot of the first season of IT: Welcome to Derryis located in the year 1962, in the period preceding the events of IT: Chapter One (2017), addressing the origin story of Pennywise the Clown (with the return of Bill Skarsgård)as well as the dawn of the 27 year curse that stalks the small town of Maine.
The inspiration is the interludes written by Mike Hanlon in the novel by Stephen Kingwhich document “catastrophic events” from the past of Derry, Maine. The first of these events, “The Black Spot” is portrayed in the first season.
Each season would then address a different catastrophic event, the other two being the Bradley Gang massacrea gang of bank robbers from the 1930s, and Kitchener Ironworks explosion.
Andy Muschetti previously revealed that “There's a reason the story is told backwards. The first season is 1962, second season is 1935 and third season is 1908.”
