The franchise Karate Kidhas a new official title delivery underway Karate Kid: Legendswith house in Sony Pictures.
The next sequel will unite the worlds of the “Miyagiverse” with the returns of Jackie Chan y Ralph Macchio as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, respectively. Mr. Han, from the 2010 reboot, will go to Daniel for help in training the young Li Yong, played by Ben Wang (American Born Chinese).
He coming-of-age will continue the mythology of the original franchise.
The new installment will bring the story to the East Coast and will focus on a teenager from China (Wang) who finds strength and direction through martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two).
A new image shared by ScreenRant as part of its preview article for some of the most anticipated projects of 2025, shows Chan, Macchio and Wang in full characterization as Han, LaRusso and Li Yong in one of the training sessions of the new student.

In addition to those mentioned, the cast includes Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Doctor Odyssey, Dr. Death), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of SHIELD, The Mandalorian) y Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident).
Jonathan Entwistle (I’m Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World) directs the feature film written by Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit).
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition, but his skills alone are not enough. Li's kung fu teacher, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), recruits the original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to help him, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.”
The project was originally announced in September 2022, while the participation of Macchio and Chan was revealed in 2023. In the case of Wang, a global casting was conducted for the role as Li Fong, which was won by the young man in February this year.
Previously, the director of LegendsEntwistle revealed how the film combines the universes of the Miyagiverse and the 2010 reboot:
“Without giving too much away, I can say that Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi are the connection to Daniel. The Han family and the Miyagi family are connected since ancient times. And there is a mention of this within the Karate Kid movie canon for those people who want to look for it.”
Macchio played Daniel LaRusso in the original film, The Karate Kid (1984), and the two sequels in 1986 and 1989. He also took it up again in the series Cobra Kai. Chan, for his part, gave life to Mr. Han in the 2010 reboot, The Karate Kid.
Karen Rosenfelt (Dopesick, Me Before Yousaga Twilight) produces the feature film.
Sony Pictures will release Karate Kid: Legends on May 30, 2025.
